Workshop

Planning with the ARL 2030 Scenarios

Dates

Wednesday, March 23, 2011 (Noon), through Friday, March 25, 2011 (4:00 p.m.)

Location:

Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA

Instructor

Susan Stickley, Stratus, Inc.

Workshop Goals

Participants will:

  • Develop a customized draft plan for using the ARL 2030 Scenario Set at their institutions.

  • Work with peers as they assess their institutions’ needs and make decisions about how best to apply the ARL 2030 Scenarios.

  • Deepen their understanding of the value and purpose of scenario planning.

Description

This two-and-a-half-day experiential learning event will use real library cases to take participants through a process of assessing an organization’s needs and mapping out a custom plan on how most effectively to incorporate the ARL 2030 Scenarios in the case organizations. The design will combine this group activity with individual work. Each participant will work through a diagnostic process to define the needs of his or her organization, master the concept of a strategic agenda, and learn techniques for facilitating scenario planning activities. This is an active learning event, minimizing lecture and presentation, and maximizing interaction and activity. Participants are expected to complete prework assignments before the workshop so that they are prepared to engage fully and develop a post-workshop action agenda during the event.

Audience

Staff at ARL member libraries seeking assistance in integrating the ARL 2030 Scenarios into their own library planning.

Registration fee: $1,000 for members; $1,500 for nonmembers
